Job Description
Job Summary:
Are you an expert in depth-sensing technology who bridges the gap between hardware physics, software simulation, and real-world camera design?
onsemi is looking for a
Principal Image Sensor & Camera Systems Engineer specializing in
Indirect Time-of-Flight (iToF) systems. In this role, you will be the driving force behind our 3D sensing roadmap—developing models for iToF pixels, defining active illumination subsystems, and architecting the reference designs that power next-generation depth cameras, driver monitoring systems (DMS), and eye-tracking applications.
Responsibilities
Performance Objectives:
- iToF Software Modeling: Architect, write, and automate sensor models, validate sensor and iToF depth-calculation software pipelines.
- Build 3D Camera Systems: Collaborate in the development of cutting-edge iToF camera modules, evaluation boards, proof-of-concepts, and high-performance customer demonstrators.
- Define Subsystem Specs: Establish precise engineering specs for active illumination modules (VCSELs/LEDs), modulation frequencies, optical bandpass filters, lenses, and specialized PCBs.
- Validate & Calibrate: Perform hands-on lab characterization of iToF modules, writing custom software scripts to analyze hardware test data, sensor noise, and depth accuracy.
- Bridge Tech & Market: Collaborate globally across engineering and marketing teams to translate client 3D sensing requirements into next-generation image sensor technologies.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Experience: 5+ years of industry experience as a camera systems engineer, optical systems engineer, or 3D sensing engineer.
- iToF Domain Expertise: Deep understanding of Indirect Time-of-Flight (iToF) sensor architectures, including continuous-wave modulation, demodulation pixels, and active illumination concepts.
- Code & Simulation Skills: Strong proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or C/C++ applied to scientific computing, numerical analysis, pixel performance modeling, or depth-mapping software.
- Target Applications: Hands-on experience with active illumination camera systems such as depth cameras, driver monitoring systems (DMS), eye-tracking, or similar time-of-flight systems.
- Education: M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) pixel performance modeling, numerical analysis of electro-optical devices, or semiconductor physics simulation.
- Experience in VCSEL/illumination optics design, iToF spatial/temperature calibration, or high-speed hardware board design.
- Bonus Points:
- Hands-on experience with CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) pixel performance modeling, numerical analysis of electro-optical devices, or semiconductor physics simulation.
- Experience in VCSEL/illumination optics design, iToF spatial/temperature calibration, or high-speed hardware board design.
