Averna Therapeutics is seeking a Senior Bioinformatician to help build and scale the computational infrastructure powering our next-generation genomic medicine platform. This role sits at the intersection of bioinformatics, computational biology, software engineering, and cloud infrastructure, supporting advanced sequencing analysis, genomic characterization, and therapeutic development workflows. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience building production-grade bioinformatics pipelines and cloud-native genomic analysis systems in fast-paced research or biotech environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize scalable bioinformatics pipelines for NGS and long-read sequencing analysis 
  • Build cloud-native workflows supporting genomic characterization, construct design, and insertion-site analysis 
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with computational biology, molecular biology, data science, and software engineering teams 
  • Improve infrastructure reliability, scalability, automation, and workflow performance 
  • Contribute to software engineering best practices including CI/CD, testing, version control, and infrastructure-as-code 
  • Troubleshoot pipeline and infrastructure issues in production environments and drive continuous improvements in performance, scalability, and usability.
  • Contribute to technical architecture decisions, coding standards, and engineering best practices across the organization. 


Preferred Experience

  • PhD+3 years or MSc+5 years of Industry experience in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Genomics, or related field.
  • Extensive experience developing and maintaining bioinformatics pipelines in production environments.
  • Proficiency in workflow orchestration frameworks such as Nextflow, Snakemake, Cromwell/WDL, or similar systems.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Bash, and/or related scripting languages.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Experience designing and maintaining scalable data infrastructure and backup strategies.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, version control, and release management.
  • Experience working in startup biotech, genomic medicine, gene therapy, or genome engineering environments is highly preferred 


Work Structure: 

·       Full time position

·       Based in NesZiona, Israel, with a hybrid work arrangement available.

·       General ability to flex work time/days to account for meetings across time zones.
