What you'll do


Our business is built on finding great people and getting out of their way while they build and improve our award-winning Software as a Service (SaaS) offering. We are looking for a Principal Software Development Engineer to join the Sign engineering team and help scale and build the next generation of e-Sign experiences. As a Principal Engineer you will spearhead the architecture and development of a highly scalable, reliable and available (“5 nines”) piece of our core offering. You will cover API/backend, from sending a document to signing to integrating with various 3rd party systems, all in a dynamic environment with a 24x7x52 critical service and an exceptional team. Our team focuses on distributed decision making that rewards ownership, transparency, and collaboration.


This position is an individual contributor, reporting to the Senior Director, Engineering.


Responsibility


  • Write high quality code that is easy to maintain and test
  • Design and build platform components for customer reporting and data, improving customer effectiveness at deploying and using DocuSign
  • Support strategic code sharing and architecture for one or more functional area
  • Ensure design and architecture is extensible across multiple projects, and participate in technical design and code reviews
  • Work with Product Management and other developers to understand design requirements and provide estimates for development
  • Work closely with QA to identify test cases and devise efficient, scalable testing processes
  • Work cooperatively with product management and design to create features that are scalable and secure. Identify, propose, and implement process improvements to continuously increase the team's productivity and efficiency
  • Stay current with the latest development best practices and share your findings with the team
  • Work as part of a cross-site development team to drive design, implementation, testing, and release of products
  • Raise issues proactively that might impact delivery commitments
  • Willingness to learn Linux at a deep level
  • Research new features and technologies
  • Fix production issues and maintain the code as needed
  • Coaching and mentoring other team members with new technologies


Job Designation


Hybrid: Employee divides their time between in-office and remote work. Access to an office location is required. (Frequency: Minimum 2 days per week; may vary by team but will be weekly in-office expectation)

What you bring


Basic


  • 15+ years of product development experience
  • SaaS or Cloud experience, with Azure/MSF background
  • Proven experience in large C# or Java or C/C++ projects
  • Experience designing and developing highly scalable consumer facing web application
  • Hands-on, professional experience with consuming and building RESTful web-services
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • BS degree in Computer Science or relevant field of study


Preferred


  • Knowledge of Linux OS from the kernel level (willingness to learn) down to the application level
  • Experience with full stack development, preferably in one or more of OO programming languages, like C#, C++, Java
  • Knowledge and experience in high scale, highly available (99.99+) systems
  • Experience in SW-HW integration
  • Background in data security (PKI, Digital Signatures, Secure communications)
  • Experience in working in an agile development environment
  • Curiosity and ability to learn new technologies and tool sets
  • Experience with Microsoft technology stack (.NET, C#, SQL Server, etc.)
  • Prior experience aligning platform architecture with security and data
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks
  • Experience developing, promoting and building consensus across engineering teams
