About us
We are at the forefront of advancing quantum and superconducting technologies, working on cutting-edge research and development to fabricate superconducting chips. Our mission is to innovate and push the boundaries of chip fabrication while fostering a collaborative and forward-thinking work environment.
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and independent Quantum Device Theorist to join our qubit design team. The ideal candidate will bring deep quantum-mechanical and quantum-information expertise into the design of our superconducting quantum processor, building the Hamiltonian-level models that determine how our qubits, couplers, readout, and reset behave, and turning them into next-generation design decisions. You will work hand in hand with our RF/EM design engineers, complementing and supporting their electromagnetic simulations with quantum models. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants their theory to end up in fabricated chips.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop analytical and numerical models of superconducting circuits: circuit quantization, effective Hamiltonians, and qubit–coupler–resonator interactions.
- Simulate qubit dynamics, single- and two-qubit gates, dispersive readout, and reset, including leakage, crosstalk, and decoherence.
- Run large-Hilbert-space simulations of multi-qubit systems to identify error mechanisms that emerge as the processor scales.
- Propose and analyze novel coupler, gate, readout, and reset schemes, drawing on advances in quantum information science, and translate design trade-offs into concrete parameter targets for the chip.
- Work closely with the RF/EM design team: turn EM and microwave simulation results into Hamiltonian parameters and build efficient EM-to-quantum workflows.
- Analyze measurement data from current devices together with the measurement team, validate models, and feed the lessons into next-generation designs.
- Build Python design-automation tools that link quantum models, EM simulation, and chip layout.
Qualifications
- MSc in physics or a related field; a PhD in quantum physics, theoretical physics, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong expertise in advanced quantum mechanics, including perturbation theory and effective-Hamiltonian methods.
- Experience modeling quantum hardware, preferably superconducting circuits.
- Hands-on experience with numerical simulation of quantum systems (e.g., QuTiP, scqubits, or in-house code).
- Strong proficiency in Python, including object-oriented programming.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills, and experience working with experimental teams to analyze data.
- Research experience in circuit quantization, circuit QED, or quantum control is a plus.
- Experience with large-Hilbert-space or open-system simulation, or HPC, is a plus.
- Familiarity with EM and microwave simulation tools (HFSS, Sonnet, COMSOL, etc.), black-box quantization, or superconducting circuit layout is a plus.
What We Offer
- The opportunity to work on pioneering technologies in a cutting-edge field.
- A collaborative environment that values innovation and creativity.
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- A chance to make a significant impact on the future of superconducting and quantum technologies.
