Quantum Source is building a fault-tolerant, compound photon-atom quantum computer. We are a multidisciplinary team combining quantum physics, optics, electronics, FPGA, firmware, and software.
We are looking for a Senior FPGA Team Leader to lead our FPGA and electronics development. This is a hands-on leadership role covering FPGA architecture and implementation, PCB development, system integration, and laboratory debugging.
The role owns delivery from system requirements through design, manufacturing, bring-up, validation, and integration into the quantum computing platform.
Responsibilities
- Lead the FPGA and electronics development activities, set priorities, review designs, mentor engineers, and ensure high-quality execution.
- Own the FPGA and electronics architecture, including system partitioning, device selection, HW and SW interfaces, clocking, synchronization, power architecture, and signal integrity.
- Remain hands-on in RTL design, FPGA SoC and IP integration, simulation, synthesis, implementation, timing closure, and on-chip debugging.
- Own the complete electronics development lifecycle, including requirements, specifications, components selection, schematic, Layout, and PCB stack-up reviews, manufacturing support, board bring-up, validation, and release.
- Lead board development by defining the scope of work and technical requirements, selecting and managing design partners, reviewing their deliverables, and ensuring compliance with performance, quality, and schedule requirements.
- Plan and track milestones, identify technical risks and dependencies, and coordinate FPGA and electronics delivery with the overall system development plan.
- Lead system integration and root-cause analysis across FPGA, digital, analog, RF, power, and communication electronics.
- Work closely with real-time software, PC software, system architecture, optics, and experimental physics teams to translate system needs into reliable control electronics.
Requirements
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of hands-on FPGA development experience across complex multidisciplinary systems.
- At least 2 years of experience as an FPGA team leader or technical lead, including mentoring and reviewing the work of other engineers.
- Strong command of System Verilog, Verilog, or VHDL and the complete FPGA development flow.
- Proven experience with FPGA architecture, timing constraints and closure, clock-domain crossing, reset design, resource optimization, and third-party IP integration.
- Strong board-level electronics experience, including digital and mixed-signal design, power, clocking, high-speed interfaces, signal integrity, and board bring-up.
- Strong simulation, verification, and laboratory debugging skills using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and embedded debug tools.
- System-level thinking and the ability to convert multidisciplinary requirements into technical decisions and executable work plans.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, combined with a hands-on working style.
Advantages
- Experience with Xilinx devices and the Vivado toolchain, including Zynq or Versal platforms.
- Experience developing deterministic, low-latency, or high-rate real-time control systems.
- Experience integrating high-speed ADCs, DACs, RF electronics, precision clocking, or synchronized distributed hardware.
- Embedded C or C++ and embedded Linux experience.
- Experience with electro-optical systems, photonics, scientific instrumentation, or quantum systems.
- Experience taking FPGA and electronics systems from prototype through productization and manufacturing.
