About the Role


We are looking for a strong Kotlin Multiplatform Engineer to join our mobile engineering team and help shape the architecture of the next generation of PayPlus products.

you will design and build shared, production-grade code across platforms, with a strong focus on creating reusable domain, business, networking, data, synchronization, and infrastructure layers.

You will work across the boundary between shared and platform-specific code, deciding what belongs in the common layer and what should remain native.

You will also contribute to the Android experience and work closely with backend, hardware, and product teams to build reliable commerce and payment applications.


This is an opportunity to have a direct impact on the architecture of a real-world platform combining Kotlin Multiplatform, payments, AI, commerce, hardware, cloud infrastructure, and real-time systems.


Responsibilities


  • Design and develop production applications using Kotlin Multiplatform
  • Own and evolve the shared KMP architecture across the product

Build reusable shared modules for:

  • Domain and business logic
  • Networking and API communication
  • Data and persistence
  • Authentication and authorization
  • State management
  • Synchronization
  • Offline-first capabilities
  • error handling and observability
  • Define clear boundaries between shared KMP code and platform-specific implementations
  • Develop platform-specific integrations for Android and other supported platforms
  • Build modern UI experiences using Jetpack Compose and Compose Multiplatform
  • Integrate the application with payment terminals, printers, scanners, vending machines, and other external hardware
  • Build platform-specific integrations for Bluetooth, USB, Serial, and other hardware communication
  • Design robust offline-first and synchronization mechanisms for environments where connectivity cannot be guaranteed
  • Build real-time experiences connected to cloud services and event-driven backend systems
  • Optimize shared and platform-specific code for performance, stability, and reliability
  • Establish reusable libraries and engineering patterns for KMP development
  • Debug complex issues across shared code, native platform code, networking, and hardware
  • Collaborate closely with Backend, Product, QA, DevOps, and Hardware teams
  • Participate in architectural decisions and technical design
  • Ship software used daily by thousands of merchants


Qualifications


  • 3+ years of professional software/mobile development experience
  • Strong Kotlin experience
  • Strong hands-on experience with Kotlin Multiplatform
  • Experience designing and maintaining shared code across multiple platforms
  • Strong understanding of modular architecture and separation between shared and platform-specific code
  • Strong understanding of asynchronous programming and concurrency
  • Experience with Kotlin Coroutines and Flow
  • Experience with REST APIs and networking
  • Experience with local persistence such as SQLite / Room
  • Experience with clean architecture and scalable application design
  • Strong Android development experience
  • Experience with Jetpack Compose
  • Ability to debug complex production issues
  • Ability to make pragmatic architectural decisions in a real-world product environment
  • Passion for building products and solving engineering problems beyond simply implementing tickets
