Red Hat is the world’s leading provider of enterprise open source software solutions, using a community-powered approach to deliver reliable and high-performing Kubernetes technologies. We are looking for a highly motivated student to join our Migration Engineering team to help build the next generation of application portability tools.
In this role, you will contribute to an AI-enhanced project designed to replace the legacy Migration Toolkit for Containers (MTC). You will work at the intersection of Kubernetes internals, automated modernization, and Generative AI to help customers move applications into modern, scalable, and declarative GitOps workflows.
What You Will Do
- Core Development: Develop and implement modular "Workload Handlers" (Go/Python) to automate the discovery and migration of complex applications like PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Kafka.
- AI Integration: Build and refine AI-powered agents that analyze cluster differences, recommend migration strategies, and automatically generate transformation rules (e.g., mapping AWS storage to GCP).
- Modernization Engineering: Implement "Modernization Profiles" that inject best practices—such as health probes, resource limits, and auto-scaling—into legacy application manifests during the migration process.
- Validation & Integrity: Develop automated post-migration "Smoke Tests" to verify functional health, data integrity, and network connectivity on target clusters.
- Open Source Collaboration: Work with the upstream Konveyor community to contribute enhancements back to the Crane core library.
What You Will Bring
- Programming: Strong proficiency in Go.
- Kubernetes Fundamentals: Basic understanding of pods, services, deployments, and PersistentVolumes (PVs).
- AI Interest: Desire to learn LLMOps and prompt engineering for structural data (YAML/JSON) transformation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Must be enrolled in an accredited university program in Israel during the whole duration of the internship and eligible to begin a full-time role in 2027 or 2028
- Must be available for the internship from May 2026 till April 2027
The Following Are Considered a Plus
- Cloud Native Tools: Familiarity with OpenShift, Helm, or GitOps tools like ArgoCD.
- Infrastructure-as-Code: Experience with Ansible, Terraform, or Tekton pipelines.
- AI Frameworks: Knowledge of OpenShift AI (RHOAI), Ollama, or LLM integration patterns.
- Open Source: Previous code contributions or public projects on GitHub.
Due to the limited number of internship opportunities and the high volume of applications, we may not be able to speak with every candidate. To maximize your chances of moving forward in the process, please ensure your CV clearly outlines your education, relevant projects (link to your Github account), and extracurricular activities.
Please apply for a maximum of three internship roles that best match your interests and skills.
