Job Summary
The Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization team is looking for an Intern to join the KubeVirt project in Israel. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Quality Engineers and Software Development Engineers. This position requires a self-motivated individual with passion for problem solving, Linux experience, who can work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, and has a strong passion for delivering our top-notch software products.
In this long-term internship, you’ll have the opportunity to engage with open-source communities, learn, design and implement virtualization solutions using Containers and Virtual Machines and gain knowledge around industry-leading technologies such as Containers, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Libvirt and QEMU. As a part of a geographically distributed team you will also collaborate with multiple Red Hat engineering teams around the globe.
What Will You Do
- Actively participate in container and virtualization technologies, such as KubeVirt, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Libvirt and QEMU.
- Learn, develop, enhance KubeVirt ( primarily compute features) and collaborate with the community using Golang.
- Submit patches for bug fixes to the KubeVirt project.
- Responsible for code maintenance and quality by writing and fixing unit and functional tests.
- Work with the Quality Engineering team members.
- Publicize the team's work through blogs or conference talks.
What Will You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or relevant experience.
- Some experience with container-related technologies (Docker or Podman, Kubernetes or Openshift).
- Some experience in a Linux environment with at least one high level language, such as Golang, Python, or C/C++.
- Good analytical, troubleshooting, and debugging skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to quickly learn new technologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Must be enrolled in an accredited university program in Israel during the whole duration of the internship and eligible to begin a full-time role in 2027 or 2028
- Must be available for the internship from May 2026 till April 2027
The Following Are Considered a Plus
- Programming skills in Golang.
- Previous code contributions to or participation in open source projects or code samples on GitHub.
- Some experience with Compute or networking or storage technologies.
- Familiarity with Cloud / Virtualization Technologies (AWS, VMware, etc),
- Familiarity with Open Source software development methodologies.
