Software Team Lead – CORE Engineering
About Cyera
Cyera is the data security platform that gives organizations deep visibility and control over their most sensitive data. Built by top engineers and security experts, Cyera operates at massive scale, securing complex cloud environments for leading enterprises worldwide.
At the heart of Cyera’s R&D sits the
CORE Engineering team — the group that builds and owns the internal software infrastructure powering the entire Cyera platform.
About The Role
We’re looking for a
Software Team Lead to lead one of Cyera’s
CORE Engineering teams — a small, senior group responsible for the internal foundations on which the entire product is built.
This is a
high-leverage, hands-on leadership role with
company-wide impact. Everything your team builds automatically affects
200+ engineers and every service in production: microservice frameworks, common services, databases, inter-service and cross-cluster communication, advanced deployment flows, build and CI pipelines, release processes, and more — all at
high scale, high speed, hyper-growth and production grade.
You’ll lead a team of experienced senior engineers, define
technical direction, vision, and standards across critical infrastructure domains, and remain deeply involved in architecture, design, and code. Cyera’s rapid growth means priorities, constraints, and scale challenges evolve constantly. You’ll need to adapt quickly, guide your team through change, and continuously evolve systems, standards, and practices as the organization grows. This role is ideal for a
founding-team-caliber engineer who enjoys owning complex systems end-to-end, setting how engineering is done across an organization, and building strong teams around them.
You’ll report directly to Cyera’s
Infrastructure Director and work closely with DevOps, as well as leaders and teams across R&D, Product, and OCTO.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and grow a senior CORE engineering team (≈5 engineers), including hiring, mentoring, and bar-raising
- Stay hands-on (~30%), driving critical designs, reviewing code, and contributing where it matters most
- Own major parts of Cyera’s internal software infrastructure, used by every development team
- Set company-wide technical standards for frameworks, production readiness, CI, and releases
- Act as a force multiplier: enabling dozens of engineers to move faster, safer, and with more confidence
Core Responsibilities
Core Frameworks
- Own Cyera’s NestJS service framework, including shared modules for configuration, logging, caching, database connections, and Kafka clients
- Lead application-level Kafka infrastructure, usage patterns, and standards
- Own Cyera’s TypeORM integration and internal fork
- Define and enforce global exception handling, service contracts, and runtime standards
- Lead deployment standards across application teams
Production & Scale
- Own application-level production readiness and autoscaling strategies
- Lead production debugging tooling and practices
- Own production database architecture, scaling strategies, and performance characteristics
- Define baseline application-level monitoring and alerts for all teams
- Maintain end-to-end visibility into pipeline and system health
Architecture & Cross-Team Leadership
- Shape infrastructure architecture in close partnership with DevOps and development teams
- Ensure tight synchronization between application code and continuous deployment infrastructure
- Represent developer needs, constraints, and long-term velocity in cross-organization technical discussions
- Influence architectural decisions well beyond your immediate team
Release Ownership
- Lead the company’s release process, including coordination, cutoffs, and freezes
- Support product teams with safe, optimized migration strategies
What You Bring
- 7+ years of experience in backend, infrastructure, or core systems engineering
- Proven experience leading strong engineers and complex technical initiatives
- Strong hands-on background with large, complex, production-critical codebases
- Experience designing and owning internal frameworks or platforms used by many teams
- Deep understanding of developer productivity, CI/CD, and production systems
- Comfort operating in high-impact, ambiguous, and evolving problem spaces with real ownership
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead through influence and trust
Nice to Have
- Experience in hyper-growth startups or scale-up phases
- Background in CORE / infrastructure / internal engineering teams
- Kafka-heavy or event-driven architectures
- High-scale PostgreSQL environments
- Familiarity with NestJS, TypeORM, or similar backend frameworks
- Experience supporting large (200+), fast-growing engineering organizations
Why Join Cyera’s CORE Team?
- Everything you build impacts the entire engineering organization
- Lead a senior team at the technical heart of a rapidly growing company
- Work on problems that only exist at real scale and constant change
- Shape how engineering evolves at Cyera — technically, operationally, and culturally
