As a Lead DS/ML Researcher at Sett, you’ll own the exploration and initiation of new data science and machine learning projects that push our core IP forward. You’ll focus on going beyond “just” LLM API calls: discovering where specialized models, finetunes, and richer ML workflows can create real value, and driving those ideas from vague potential → POC → engineering-ready solutions.

You’ll work closely with Research, Engineering and Product to spot high-impact opportunities, explore feasibility, design experiments, and guide data collection and pipelines that make these projects viable in practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and evaluate new DS/ML opportunities across Sett’s products and systems
  • Map relevant research fields (e.g. game-playing agents, spatial reasoning, RL, game analysis) and connect them to Sett’s needs
  • Run feasibility explorations and POCs, including risk assessment, expected impact, and resource estimates
  • Design and guide data strategies: instrumentation, collection, labeling, and continuous pipelines
  • Deliver models and experimental results in an “engineering-ready” form, and collaborate on deployment and iteration

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in applied ML/DS, ML research engineering, or a related field
  • Proven experience taking ML/DL ideas from concept to POC and into production
  • Experience with deep learning beyond basic LLM usage, including hands-on experience with modern DL frameworks (such as PyTorch)
  • Ability to tackle ambiguous, open-ended problems and make principled trade-offs
  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field
  • Nice-to-have – experience with LLM-based systems, and especially agents

The ideal candidate enjoys spotting and shaping new research directions, is comfortable that not every bet will pay off, and is motivated by defining where DS & ML research can have the highest impact within Sett.
