At Calialfa, we’re redefining the future of sports analytics and betting. Our mission is to deliver lightning-fast, data-driven insights and user experiences that feel magical. We do this by combining high-frequency data pipelines, real-time modeling, and robust backend systems—built to handle hundreds of thousands of concurrent users across live Football, Basketball, Baseball, American Football, and more.
We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who thrives in dynamic, high-scale environments and wants to shape the core of a product that millions engage with in real time.
What You’ll Be Doing
Architect and develop scalable, high-performance backend systems with real-time demands.
Own core microservices, APIs, & data infrastructure that power live sports events & odds engines.
Work closely with product managers, analysts, and engineers to understand the why—not just the what—behind each feature.
Bring PRDs to life by challenging assumptions, identifying edge cases, and better solutions.
Integrate with internal tools and external providers—from payment gateways to data feeds and partner APIs.
Set the bar for code quality and reliability through testing, automation, and clean design.
Troubleshoot live issues in real-time systems and ensure uptime during high-traffic events like playoffs and major tournaments.
What You Bring
5+ years of experience building robust, backend applications in production environments.
Deep knowledge of message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar) event-driven architectures.
Strong grasp of relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and practical data modeling.
A self-starter mentality with a passion for quality and ownership—from idea to production.
comfortable leveraging AI coding tools to boost productivity, explore solutions faster, and enhance code quality without compromising craftsmanship.
Bonus Points
Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Java, or C#—especially around performance optimization and async design patterns.
Experience with Redis (for caching, pub/sub, and distributed locks).
Cloud-native experience with AWS (ECS, Lambda, RDS, etc.).
A background in high-scale systems handling millions of requests/day in low-latency environments.
Experience in sports betting, real-time streaming, or marketplace platforms.
