About UG Labs

UG Labs is inventing how AI will work for the next generation. We are building the first AI engine designed for children, setting the global standard for ethical, imaginative, and child-centered AI. We believe in the near future, children will be interacting with AI in learning environments, entertainment and events. We want to build a platform that ensures these experiences will be safe, engaging and creative.

Unlike general-purpose LLMs trained exclusively on adult data, UG’s proprietary platform is designed specifically for children, with safety, privacy, and developmental context built in. Our infrastructure combines:

●             Creative Development – configurable AI-driven experiences tailored for kids’ engagement.

●             Model Usage – high-performance, real-time inference and API calls optimized for cost and scale.

●             Trust Infrastructure – industry-leading safety, privacy, and compliance.

Our system runs multiple specialized models per child input, tuned to their age, language, and context, achieving better accuracy and engagement than any off-the-shelf model while surpassing industry benchmarks in child speech recognition. Partnering with leading education and entertainment brands, we power live products that deliver safe, personalized, and voice-first AI experiences.

Senior GenAI Platform Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking an AI Platform Engineer to join our team and play a key role in the design, development, and deployment of our SaaS Generative AI platform. The platform enables safe, real-time voice-to-voice conversations with children by integrating speech-to-text, LLMs, audio and subtitle generation, sound effects, and more.

Your day-to-day work will involve writing production-quality Python code for real-time streaming scenarios, algorithmic optimizations of parallel computation graphs, and fine-tuning LLM usage

through dynamic prompting and output segmentation. You will also support customers throughout their product journey, from onboarding to evaluating their usage and suggesting optimizations for their experience.

As a small company, we are looking for engineers who are also passionate about the problem domain and actively participate in product discussions on engineering-related topics, such as:

●             How and when to evaluate conversations for children's safety concerns.

●             Identifying related customer requests and translating them into engineering initiatives.

●             Designing means to protect and safeguard children's privacy.

The position requires a deep understanding of Python, including asynchronous programming, generators, decorators, type-checking, and debugging. Experience in backend development (authentication, SQL, HTTP APIs) and/or DevOps (Docker, K8S, etc.) is a significant advantage but not strictly required.

Responsibilities

●             Backend Development: Architect, develop, and maintain a complex, real-time web API using Python and GenAI.

●             Code Quality: Write dynamic, performant, and high-quality code. Our customers rely on us to build reliable experiences, so your code should be efficient, thoroughly tested, and reviewed.

●             Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with data scientists, machine learning engineers, prompt engineers, and game designers to deliver end-to-end AI solutions.

●             DevOps (Optional): Ensure the scalability and reliability of AI services by leveraging cloud-based solutions and container orchestration tools like Kubernetes.

Required Qualifications

●             Python: At least 5 years of experience in developing large, complex systems or major research projects using Python (not just occasional scripts), with a minimum of 1 year of experience in asynchronous programming in Python.

●             Backend Design: Ability to design and implement backend services, including

micro-services, message passing, task queues, etc. While no formal prior experience is required, a strong understanding of how these systems operate and the ability to design new ones are essential.

●             Cloud: Experience deploying code on one or more cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including inspecting logs and dashboards.

●             Design Maturity: Ability to design systems that minimize the need for major refactoring when new features are introduced, and to anticipate the impact of new features on system stability and performance.

Preferred Qualifications

●             LLM Programming: Experience in developing with Large Language Models for generating both streaming and structured outputs.

●             SQL: Practical experience with SQL, encompassing querying, data modeling, and performance optimization.

●             DevOps: Familiarity with DevOps methodologies and tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and other related technologies.

●             Generative AI Knowledge: Understanding of generative AI models (e.g., LLMs, RAG, Image Generation, Transcription, Diarization) and their deployment processes.

Why join UG?

At UG, every line of code, every model improvement, and every feature release is aimed at one goal: making the digital world safer, smarter, and more inspiring for children.

You’ll join a team of mission-driven technologists who are solving some of AI’s hardest challenges: speech recognition for young voices, real-time safety escalation, multi-model orchestration, while working with leading education and entertainment brands. We combine startup agility with deep technical expertise, and we back that up with competitive pay, equity, flexible work, and strong benefits.

If you’re excited by the idea of pushing the boundaries of generative AI while ensuring it serves humanity’s youngest and most important users, we’d love to hear from you.
