About the Role
Milestone is building the leading orchestration and analytics platform for R&D teams embracing GenAI developer tools. As our BI Analyst, you’ll play a critical role in building the customer-facing data backbone that enables actionable visibility and ROI insights for our customers, from engineering performance to GenAI impact. You will define and standardize how customers access and interact with their data, design baseline datasets, and work closely with our product, data, and engineering teams to deliver robust, flexible, and self-serve BI capabilities. Your work will empower our clients and internal stakeholders to make data-driven decisions that shape the future of R&D productivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Define, model, and maintain baseline customer datasets, empowering direct data access and self-service exploration within our BI platform.
- Build and streamline secure data access standards, ensuring customization and scalability across different customer entities (projects, teams, HR, Jira, GenAI usage, etc.).
- Collaborate with the data engineering team to deeply understand our data model, from Git, management tools, GenAI sources, to HR systems, to optimize querying and usability.
- Serve as a customer-facing data expert: Act as a reliable and responsive point of contact for customer BI needs, ensuring customers receive fast, accurate, and courteous support for data access, metric customization, and general BI inquiries.
- Develop and maintain clear, customer-facing documentation and guidelines for utilizing Milestone’s data and BI tools.
- Design and implement custom metrics, dashboards, and reports, supporting diverse customer requests and unique analytical requirements.
- Lead the data-side integration and continual improvement of our embedded BI solution (currently leveraging Superset), evaluating and piloting alternative tools as our product evolves.
- Act as a "data partner" for Product Managers, supporting product analysis, ad hoc investigations, and KPI tracking to inform product direction and customer success.
- Provide hands-on assistance and training to help customers leverage embedded BI tools, interpret dashboards, and access source-of-truth data for their unique business questions.
- Ensure high standards of data accuracy, consistency, and security across all customer-facing BI products.
Required Skills & Experience
- 3+ years in BI/data analytics roles, ideally in SaaS, B2B, or data-heavy product environments.
- Advanced SQL expertise, including writing, optimizing, and debugging complex queries across large, normalized datasets (PostgreSQL or similar preferred).
- Demonstrated experience defining semantic models, KPIs, and curated source-of-truth datasets for consumption in self-service BI tools.
- Experience working with modern BI platforms (Superset, Looker, Metabase, Tableau, Power BI, or similar), including creating and managing dashboards, access controls, and data sources.
- Strong background in building trust-based relationships with customers; proven track record of being responsive, service-oriented, and able to communicate data concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
- Ability to translate business/product requirements into actionable, sustainable data solutions and visualizations.
- Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborative mindset, comfortable working cross-functionally with product, engineering, and customer-facing teams.
Nice-to-Have
- Exposure to building customer-facing analytics or embedded BI in a productized environment.
- Experience with Python or another scripting language for data transformation and automation.
- Familiarity with data security, privacy, and access management best practices.
- Interest in the impact of GenAI on engineering/productivity analytics.
