We also help merchants connect with their customers, process exchanges and returns, and manage risk. We enable consumers to engage in cross-border shopping and merchants to extend their global reach while reducing the complexity and friction involved in enabling cross-border trade.

Job Description Summary:
Meet our team: The Global Fraud Prevention – Automation team is a global, multi-disciplinary Data Science and R&D team. We build tools that automate risk solutions, working across various risk areas, such as consumer and seller risk operations, alongside product and modeling teams to identify opportunities that drive efficiency. Our responsibilities cover research, development, and full product lifecycle ownership of solutions that help data scientists combat fraud at scale. What you need to know about the role: You will work on cutting-edge risk detection and prevention systems that protect PayPal’s users and merchants from financial loss. Develop automated systems and tools - such as scalable machine learning pipelines and fraud mitigation frameworks - that empower the organization to combat fraud efficiently and at scale Collaborate with cross-functional partners across Product, Platform, Machine Learning, and Operations to drive impactful strategic initiatives.

As a Data Scientist, you will work in a dynamic environment, applying your data science expertise, algorithmic thinking, and analytical skills to solve complex business challenges. You will design and implement innovative solutions to detect and prevent fraud while also identifying opportunities to drive business growth and operational efficiency. Partnering closely with world-class professionals across the organization, you will uncover actionable insights that directly influence strategic decisions and impact the company’s bottom line. 

Your day-to-day work shall involve:

  • Analyze complex fraud-related problems and utilize data science and algorithmic thinking to uncover impactful opportunities and develop data-driven solutions
  • Drive end-to-end projects from ideation to implementation, while balancing automation goals with business objectives
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, analytics, product, operations) to translate business needs into scalable data science tools
  • Engage stakeholders throughout project lifecycles by understanding business needs and aligning on priorities, impact, and implementation
  • Support strategy discussions by providing actionable insights derived from exploratory data analysis, reporting and data-driven storytelling
  • What do you need to bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant quantitative field (e.g., Industrial Engineering, Information Systems Engineering, Statistics) with 3+ years of applied data science/analytics experience, or a Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset
  • Strong understanding of optimization techniques and decision-making frameworks
  • Experience in predictive modelling techniques such as Regression, Classification and Time series forecasting
  • Practical Knowledge of data structures and algorithms as applied to large-scale data mining
  • Proficiency in Python for data analysis and developing algorithmic solutions
  • Experience working with large datasets, querying (e.g., SQL), and data manipulation
