Software Engineer – Biological Computation
The Keren Systems Pathology Lab at the Weizmann Institute is at the forefront of cancer research, focusing on the complex interplay between the immune system and tumors. We leverage state-of-the-art high-dimensional imaging technologies to deeply profile human tissues at the molecular level. To interpret these complex datasets, we develop advanced computer vision and AI algorithms. Our goal is to achieve a systems-level understanding of cancer-immune interactions that can inform improved diagnostics and treatments.
We are seeking a skilled and motivated software engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will help build cutting-edge software for cell classification from multiplexed imaging data. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of AI, software engineering, and biomedical research — contributing both to fundamental science and the ongoing effort to improve cancer therapies.
Key Responsibilities
· Develop high-performance image analysis software tailored for high-dimensional, multi-channel biological data.
· Establish and maintain robust software development practices, including modular architecture, automated testing, continuous integration, and cross-platform deployment.
· Optimize performance in large-scale image processing pipelines (e.g., GPU acceleration, efficient data handling).
· Collaborate closely with scientists, bioinformaticians, and other engineers in an interdisciplinary environment.
· Build user interfaces and tools that foster community engagement and integrate user feedback.
Required Qualifications
· B.Sc. in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical field.
· At least 3 years of experience in Python software development.
· Proven experience developing both backend and user-facing applications.
· Strong interest in applying engineering skills to scientific and biomedical challenges.
· Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
· Background in machine learning, AI or biological image analysis.
· Proficiency with performance optimization techniques (e.g., image rendering, GPU computing, data pipeline efficiency).
· Familiarity with libraries like PyQt, OpenCV, and pandas.
· Experience working in a research environment or in collaboration with academic teams
