About The Job

As an engineer for the OpenShift Bare Metal team, you will be joining a team that builds the tools to deploy OpenShift on the next generation of platforms. In this role, you will be a key member of our OpenShift team and focus on building world-class technologies demonstrating Red Hat’s thought & market leadership in hybrid cloud, system engineering, and Kubernetes management. You will deliver critical features vital for AI-focused customers seeking to provision X86_64 alongside AArch64 architectures. Ownership and maintenance of support for hardware in emerging technologies in the AI space. You will investigate new hardware and support how we make it easy for customers to use it. Coordinate with vendors on firmware requirements and updates where needed, add support to the metal provisioning product. You'll need to be able to work in a fast-paced environment with the goal of making our end users and customers more successful with every release.

What you will do?

  • Design and development of tooling to support Bare Metal OpenShift installs
  • Work closely with the Bare Metal engineers to become a contributor to both the upstream and downstream Ironic and Metal3 projects to deliver functionality
  • Interact with multiple teams within Red Hat as well as with the open source community
  • Use your excellent communication skills to communicate with other engineers, product managers, and management across the globe
  • Provide technical leadership within the immediate team, Red Hat, and upstream communities.
  • Collaborate with other engineers in the Red Hat OpenShift Quality Engineering (QE) and Engineering team and work with members of the Documentation and Support teams.
  • Mentor junior team members.

What you will bring?

  • Experience in software engineering of distributed systems
  • Degree in computer science or equivalent experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to directly interact with customers
  • Solid experience with shell scripting, CI/CD and build tools
  • Demonstrable expertise in working with the Python or Go programming language
  • Experience in working with design to incorporate different engineering trade-offs
  • Knowledge of Git, GitHub, and JIRA

Following Are Considered a Plus

  • Familiarity with Red Hat OpenShift or OpenStack platforms
  • Solid understanding of out of band management architecture and internals
  • Designing systems with complex and diverse interactions
  • Ability to work with the following technologies on a day-to-day basis
  • Operating Systems like Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • Out of band systems technologies like iLO, DRAC, and OpenBMC
  • Understanding of how Open Source and Free Software communities work
