At Medtronic you can begin a life-long career of exploration and innovation, while helping champion healthcare access and equity for all. You’ll lead with purpose, breaking down barriers to innovation in a more connected, compassionate world.
A Day in the Life
In this role, you will join a world-class team of engineers within Medtronic’s Surgical Operating Unit, dedicated to developing cutting-edge medical devices that advance the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer.
We are looking for a hands-on, proactive, and highly motivated Software Team manager to lead and support a multidisciplinary team working on a real-time electromagnetic navigation platform. You will lead and mentor engineers through the design and development of complex, service-oriented software systems — integrating frontend (React), backend (.NET/C#), advanced algorithms, live video, and hardware components.
You thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments. You’re not only an excellent communicator and collaborator, but also a creative problem-solver who stays current with new technologies, embraces learning, and takes initiative to drive both product and team excellence. All with a relentless focus on clinical-grade quality, performance, and reliability.
This is an opportunity to step into a pivotal leadership role in a rapidly growing R&D environment. Join the world’s leading medical device company, and help us fulfill our mission- "to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life".
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Lead a software team of engineers, fostering an environment of ownership, learning, and cross-functional collaboration
- Mentor team members by encouraging knowledge-sharing, supporting personal growth, and fostering a psychologically safe team environment
- Contribute directly to full-stack feature development, with strong emphasis on React, C#, and .NET in a service-oriented architecture
- Take a proactive role in system architecture and design discussions, owning critical components and driving clarity across the tech stack
- Ensure code quality through robust testing, design documentation, and thoughtful code reviews in compliance with regulatory requirements
- Work closely with algorithm, UX, verification, and hardware teams to deliver cohesive, reliable, and high-performance system integration
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve development processes and technology ecosystems — and motivate your team to do the same
- Navigate technical challenges with foresight and support, resolve integration and performance issues, and ensure delivery under tight timelines
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- B.Sc. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field – Must
- 3+ years of experience leading software teams in a product-focused R&D environment
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in backend or full-stack software development
- 3+ years working with .NET (C#) in production environments
- Strong experience with React and TypeScript, including Redux-based workflows
- Demonstrated excellence in system design and clean, maintainable coding
- Familiarity with automated testing platforms, unit testing, and CI/CD processes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills — able to collaborate seamlessly with diverse stakeholders, including clinical and hardware teams
- Proactive, self-sufficient, and able to lead projects and people from concept to delivery
