Every company’s software standards, platform, and developers are unique and Port enables platform engineers to unify and present all of the tools in their platform, so developers can work efficiently with clear guidance along the golden paths established collaboratively with stakeholders like security, SREs, and management.

From onboarding a new developer to setting up a microservice, performing daily operations to monitoring DORA and engineering metrics across the organization, Port is the only developer portal with the total flexibility to handle all our customers’ unique platforms and standards, without the cost and complexity of building from scratch.

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to be the first infrastructure-focused engineer at Port. This is a foundational role, where you’ll build the common infrastructure for all our services and set the technical standards that will drive our engineering teams forward.

As the first infra-focused engineer, you will:

• Design and implement scalable, reliable, and high-performance infrastructure components.
• Influence development standards, architecture, and best practices across all of R&D.
• Work on mission-critical systems that impact the entire company.
• Enable product teams to move faster and scale efficiently by providing the right infrastructure, tools, and abstractions.
• Take ownership of the infrastructure layer for LLM-based capabilities, ensuring seamless integration, reliability, and scalability of AI model interactions.

What you'll do: 💼

• Design and build infrastructure components that power all of Port’s services, including authentication, authorization, service orchestration, logging and metrics reporting, and more.
• Define best practices for backend development, including coding standards, API design, observability, and performance optimization.
• Lead cross-team initiatives to improve reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
• Build and maintain the infrastructure layer that wraps and optimizes calls to AI/LLM models, ensuring efficient usage, cost management, and performance monitoring.
• Collaborate with fellow engineers to ensure seamless integrations between infrastructure and product services.
• Mentor engineers on best practices, system design, and performance optimizations.

• You'll work closely with engineering teams to design and implement infrastructure that enables scalable development.
• You'll collaborate with DevOps engineers to optimize cloud costs, observability, and operational excellence.
• You'll influence technical direction across R&D by setting high engineering standards and best practices.
• You'll engage with product teams to ensure infrastructure solutions align with business needs and enable rapid feature development.
• You'll work with teams integrating AI/LLM-based capabilities to ensure robust infrastructure support for AI-driven features.

The skillset you’ll bring: 🧮

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Experience in designing and developing complex systems, highlighting your ability to tackle challenging technical problems, up from design phase, down to implementation, monitoring and testing and deployment
• Experience in dealing with scale and performance related challenges
• Experience with AI and LLM-based architectures, including optimizing model interactions, latency, and cost efficiency
• A collaborative team player skilled in driving initiatives to successful achievements, with a can-do approach
• Strong ability to lead initiatives, drive decisions, and mentor engineers.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Hebrew
