Health AI is part of the Microsoft Health & Life Sciences organization. We build cloud services on Azure to deliver technologies powered by conversational intelligence, small and large language models, natural language processing, machine learning and diverse algorithmic approaches, combined with clinical data and medical protocols.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Applied Scientist in Health AI, you will work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, working alongside top AI Research teams throughout Microsoft. You will join a multidisciplinary group that excels in areas such as large language models, machine learning, deep learning, graph learning, information retrieval, software engineering, responsible AI and more. In This Role You Will Have The Opportunity To
- Design, develop, and deploy advanced AI models, with a focus on improving patient outcomes and operational efficiency in healthcare.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, blending research with practical application to deliver AI-powered products.
- Lead projects from conception to completion, ensuring that solutions are scalable, robust, and adhere to responsible AI practices.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field AND at least 7 years of experience in statistics, predictive analytics, or research.
- Master's Degree in the above fields AND at least 5 years of relevant experience, OR a Ph.D. in the same or related fields with at least 4 years of applicable experience.
- Demonstrated experience with the development and deployment of State-of-the-Art Generative AI systems, such as Large Language Models (LLMs), Embedding Models, and Preference Optimized models.
- Proven track record of transitioning Machine Learning models from conceptual stages to production environments.
- Expertise in Python and familiarity with PyTorch, ONNX, or equivalent deep learning frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong advantage to candidates experienced with LLMs/Generative AI, Information Extraction Tasks (such as NER, RE, Entity Linking, NLI), Vision, or Multimodal modeling.
- Practical experience with cloud-based MLOps frameworks, particularly AzureML or equivalent platforms.
- Prior involvement in healthcare or health-related AI projects, showcasing an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in this sector.
- Proficiency in additional programming languages such as C#, Java, C/C++.
- Demonstrated ability to conceptualize innovative ideas and effectively advocate for their implementation within a technology context.
- A Ph.D. is highly advantageous, although not a strict requirement.
