About The Team
The opening is for the Recommendation Platform team in the Central Tech department. The team is responsible for building and enabling ML decisioning for personalized recommendations across the site, and taking a key role in the new GenAI project - The AI Trip Planner. You’ll work with top notch engineers and data scientists from the team on bringing it to the next level and enabling optimal user experience. As a Data Engineer, you will be working with different teams throughout the company to ensure we have high-quality data from the ML platforms to power our business in all departments. Decisions for every part of our business -- from the front end experience to performance marketing to partner products -- are driven by petabytes of our data via MySQL, Hadoop, Cassandra, S3 etc. Your challenge will be to make sure we can apply our petabyte-scale data even more effectively to support business decisions, train and monitor ML models and improve our products.
Key Job Responsibilities And Duties
As a Data Engineer, you will be in charge of the development, performance, quality, and scaling of our data pipelines coming from different sources, focusing especially on data quality. You will work independently and will also be responsible for making technical decisions within a team.
- Rapidly developing next-generation scalable, flexible, and high-performance data pipelines.
- Solving issues with data and data pipelines, prioritizing based on customer impact.
- End-to-end ownership of data quality in our core datasets and data pipelines.
- Experimenting with new tools and technologies to meet business requirements regarding performance, scaling, and data quality.
- Providing tools that improve Data Quality company-wide, specifically for ML scientists.
- Providing self-organizing tools that help the analytics community discover data, assess quality, explore usage, and find peers with relevant expertise.
- Acting as an intermediary for problems, with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Promote and drive impactful and innovative engineering solutions
- Technical, behavioral and interpersonal competence advancement via on-the-job opportunities, experimental projects, hackathons, conferences, and active community participation
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams: Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and analysts to understand business requirements and translate them into machine learning solutions. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
Role Qualifications And Requirements
We are looking for driven Data Engineers who enjoy solving problems, who initiate solutions and discussions and who believe that any challenge can be scaled with the right mindset and tools.
We have found that people who match the following requirements are the ones who fit us best:
- You have more than +3 years of professional experience as a Software Developer/Data Engineer and hold a degree in a quantitative field
- You have built production data pipelines in the cloud, setting up data-lake and server-less solutions; you have hands-on experience with schema design and data modeling and working with ML scientists and ML engineers to provide production level ML solutions.
- You have experience designing systems E2E and knowledge of basic concepts (lb, db, caching, NoSQL, etc)
- Proven knowledge of Python is required, Java/Scala will be a plus
- Knowledge of Hadoop, Hive, Sqoop, MySQL imports, Oozie, Spark, CDC, Kafka, Cassandra, Airflow.
- Experience with Data Warehousing and ETL/ELT pipelines
- You are driven by petabytes of our data via MySQL, Hadoop, Cassandra, etc
- Excellent communication skills - verbal and written
- Experience with ML monitoring and evaluation tools (LLM models will be a plus).
