What you need to know about the role- We are looking for a highly talented, self-driven, full stack software engineer intern to help build core data services as well as efficient UI components for a variety of use-cases spanning near-real time analytics and machine intelligence. Meet our team PayPal’s Risk organization is in charge of implementing unique, best-of-breed fraud-detection algorithms using cutting-edge technologies. As part of the HALO organization (Horizontal Analytics Machine Learning & Operations), you will be responsible for creating data driven applications used by hundreds of data & decision scientists cross sites. You will work with teams that design and develop both front-end and back-end analytical infrastructure and tools used to identify fraud and other threats, leveraging the latest cutting edge Web and Big Data technologies. You will have a major impact on PayPal’s efforts to fight fraud using advanced algorithms and technologies, while deploying the code you develop into PayPal’s systems and having a true global contribution. As part of this role, you will develop services which ingest and aggregate different data sources and perform analytics to provide insights and user-friendly views to our internal users.
Your day to day
- Think out of the box - don't be afraid to innovate!
- Co-develop & follow best practices related to SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) & Agile methods to raise the level of automation and quality in our code repos.
- Embrace open-source – either by using it, extending it, or inventing new projects
- Balance all of this against the need to execute and develop backend cloud services as well as UI components for our end users.
What Do You Need To Bring-
- Currently enrolled in a 3rd level degree program – Bachelors or Masters
- Availability to work [80% - 100% time commitment]
- Experience with React is a must
- Knowledge and experience with nodejs is a must
- Experience with one of the relational databases (Oracle, MySQL) is a must
- Experience in developing RESTful APIs is a must
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across the whole tech stack - language, databases, web servers, and system environment
