Job Description: Senior Software Engineer (Bioinformatics)

Identifai-genetics is a cutting-edge startup company based in Tel Aviv, acting in the genomic bioinformatics space and specializing in the development of Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) using whole genome sequencing. Our mission is to revolutionize the field of prenatal genetic screening by providing accurate and comprehensive insights into fetal health. We are seeking a talented and motivated Software Engineer to join our team.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including bioinformaticians, data scientists, geneticists, and CS experts, to understand the existing bioinformatics pipeline and requirements for transforming it into a scalable, cloud-based service.
• Design, develop, and maintain software solutions that integrate genomics data processing, analysis, and visualization tools.
• Optimize and automate bioinformatics workflows to enhance efficiency and scalability.
• Implement robust data storage, management, and retrieval mechanisms for large-scale genomic datasets.
• Ensure the quality, reliability, and security of the bioinformatics service through rigorous testing and code reviews.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in genomics, bioinformatics, and cloud computing to suggest and implement innovative solutions.

Requirements:

• BSc or MSc degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
• Minimum of three years of industry experience as a Software Engineer, with a focus on bioinformatics or genomics.
• Proficiency in Python programming language and strong knowledge of Unix/Linux environments.
• Solid understanding of genomics data formats and bioinformatics tools commonly used in NGS analysis.
• Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) and distributed computing concepts.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to interact with multidisciplinary team members.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience / Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and their applications in genomics data analysis.
• Familiarity with variant calling, variant annotation, and statistical analysis methods.
• Understanding of regulatory requirements and data privacy considerations in genomics research.
