VP of R&D (Remote)

DealSumm is a California-based startup operating in the American and European legal market. Our product is a SaaS platform that analyzes and manages legal contracts, already serving the largest players in the market. Our core scientific technology is Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning.

About the role:

DealSumm is looking for a visionary VP R&D technological leader, with strong interpersonal and managerial skills who is a team player and is passionate about empowering their employees. The right person for us is genuinely passionate about building a high-performing, well-optimized organization, understanding growth and executive leadership, and experienced in building best-in-class tech teams in a B2B SaaS company. Reporting to the CEO, you will be taking end-to-end responsibility for the company’s R&D strategy, performance, and delivering high-quality software solutions on tight schedules in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

• An integral member of the company’s management team
• Work tightly with management, ensuring the vision of the company is being executed and achieved with the highest standards delivering
• Manage, develop, coach, and mentor an R&D organization consisting of 5-10 professionals
• Define and own the Engineering KPI & roadmap and conduct quarterly roadmap reviews
• Apply modern engineering practices
• Define the R&D team growth plan and strategy
• Create a process that is fluent, self-maintained, flexible, fast and constantly improving the development process and methodology

Requirements:

• B.Sc. in Computer Science or equivalent
• 3+ years of experience leading, managing, and scaling R&D teams, in startup environments
• Great communication skills
• Deep understanding of R&D built for enterprise SaaS offering
• Willingness to do some “Hands-On” work 
• A “can do” mentality and mindset, and a “hands on” approach
• Full stack development experience - advantage to Python, Django, Flask, React
• Experience with AWS or other cloud technologies
• Understanding of CI/CD processes
• Experience with dockerized services and serverless technologies
• Advantage: experience with Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, and AI
• Firm understanding of evaluating ROI of R&D projects
• Good understanding of how development connects with business
• Experience managing distributed, remote, or offshore teams
• Firm experience in agile product development
• Full proficiency in English
