StrokeAlert is developing a medical device aimed at alerting the risk of stroke in sedated or sleeping patients.

The first phase of the product development is for hospital usage in operating theaters and intensive care units.

In the second phase, StrokeAlert will develop a home-use device monitoring sleep in people with a higher risk of stroke.

The product consists of two noninvasive sensors (adhesive, disposable patches), measuring hemodynamic parameters from the carotid arteries, and a control unit.

The sensors record the signal and send it to a control unit that analyzes the data and extracts parameters.

A proprietary algorithm receives the various components and determines the risk level for stroke.

Beyond a certain threshold, the system provides an alarm alerting the risk of imminent stroke.
